Themes For New Year Party

Famous Cinema Characters
This is one of the most tried and tested ideas for a theme party. Everyone loves to dress up as their favorite cinema personality and this is an occasion where they can realize the dream of dressing up as James bond, Sherlock Holmes, Amitabh Bachchan (complete with his famous beard!), Dev Anand (with his famous swagger and scarf around the neck!) and lots more. So what are you going to be this New Year?

Traditional Theme
Traditional themes are also interesting for a New Year party. This one does not really require any kind of preparation in advance. Just tell everyone to be in his or her traditional best and be sure that they will have at least two dresses for the occasion in hand.

Circus Theme
Circus theme can be a very exciting and youngsters are surely going to love it. It is an opportunity to spread color and humor around the party and make it lively, by telling everyone to come dressed as colorful clowns, trapeze artists, ringmasters and different animals. The guests will have a very cheerful and fun-loving attitude for such a theme party.

Fairytale Characters
A fairytale-themed New Year party will be something to watch out for. Tell your guests to dress up as fairies, sailors, pirates, cartoons, etc. It will bring out the creative streak in your guests and they will take pride in dressing up and portraying their favorite character. Disco Theme

Games

Here are some games you can play during the New Year Party:

Musical Chair
This is the oldest game played in every ceremony and festival. Some chairs are arranged less than the number of people, a short snippet of music is played while the people move around these chairs. Those playing the game move around the chair. When the music stops everyone tries to sit on a vacant chair. The person who doesn't find a chair is 'out'. Similarly, one chair is taken out after every round. Person who is left at the end of the game is declared the winner'.

My Resolution
This game can be played by 4 or more players. Make your guest write his or her own 5 resolutions, each on a slip of paper. Pull one slip of paper out of a hat at a time and read it out loud. Everyone has to write down on another sheet of paper who they think made each resolution. At the end of the readings, the person who guessed the most correctly wins a prize. Talk about some of the wrong guesses out loud for fun!

The Grouping Game
This is a good game to play as a mixer. It is a fun, fast moving game. It starts out as everyone collects in one big group.

The leader initially calls out a number, usually a number between two and fifteen. The number shouldn't be more than half of the number of total participants. When the number is called out everyone must try to collect in a group that contains that number of people. The group members should be latching arms or have their arms wrapped around each other so that the leader can see who is in the group. If someone cannot enter a group because the number of required members has been reached, he is out of the game. As different numbers are successively called out the number of participants gets smaller and smaller. Eventually, there are less than ten people. The last group, or winning group, should have anywhere from two to five people.

New years win, lose or draw
This game is one of the active games played at the time of New Year. More than 6 players can play this game. Large drawing pads, pens and list of large events are required. Go through magazines and newspapers to pick out events from past years. Use these events as "titles" to Win, Lose or Draw. For tons of fun, make each of your guests team up in two's and draw whichever past year's event that they have randomly drawn while others guess.

Funny Face Contest
Such games have been played by people of all ages for so many years. At times it seems to be a very old concept but is still amongst the most commonly played games. Take picture of your guests one by one. Have them make a funny face and be sure to tell them there is a prize for the best face. The winner will be judged on the greatest laughter.

The most common but the best New Year celebration idea is to partyout. Parties can be a public as well as a private affair. These days many groups of people believe in partying publically.
Enjoy your new year celebrations at a good holiday destination or you can make a classy New Year on a cruise.
Children love to be adventurous when it's the holiday festival time. Families go out to watch New Year Circus with their children.
A peculiar idea can be to blow balloons and fill your room with it. It is so much fun to pop them out on New Year Eve.
Another idea is to participate in the masquerades. People dance on streets weraing colorful clothes and masks.
Some people prefer to sit back home and enjoy watching New Year's Special Programs on T.V.
Families hosting the New Year party can arrange some good games. Games usually played on New Year are musical chair, play board games, ring the article and mask dances.
This can be followed by a lavish dinner party.
Singing the New Year songs after dinner would be a good idea. When clock strikes 12 at night, gather all the partiers to sing songs and dance.
Take pictures or make a video of whatever you do on the celebrations day. Make an album of these pictures and show them to your relatives and friends

Fortune Balloons: Cut out small pieces of paper and write small fortune messages on them. Put them in the balloons, which can be burst at the stroke of midnight. You can also put some amount of glitter in each balloon, as it adds to the zing of the party.
Colorful Candles: Create the right ambience in your party by lighting up colorful candles at various corners. You can make them even brighter by decorating them with generous amounts of glitter. Take it a step further by getting some good aromatherapy candles from the market and make your house warm and cozy, which is perfect for the party mood.
Cascading Ribbons: Dump those streamers this year and go for the soft ribbons in satin. You can get them in a variety of colors and sizes. Just put them up in your own innovative style, in various corners of your room and set the mood for a cheerful and lively party, with a unique décor.
Metallic Stars: Get some metallic colored paper in gold and silver and cut out stars of different shapes and sizes. It's the ideal work to be given to the kids, while you clean up your home. That way, they will remain busy and you can do your work without hassles and worries. Stick those stars on your ceiling, different corners of your home, on the walls, etc to create an element of serenity and mystery.
Center Of Attraction: Place a larger-than-life centerpiece in the middle of your party room. It could be anything ranging from a huge vase with beautiful flowers to a big clock piece that would make sure that no one misses the stroke of midnight, or it could simply be the music system that rocks your party to the maximum level.
The Resolution Scrapbook: Ask your guests to jot down their New Year resolutions and see what all interesting and funny things they can come up with. You can display this scrapbook in your living room as a memory of the New Year party.
